Big Questions and Answers

Big Questions & Answers for little people is a three year children’s systematic theology for three to pre-kindergartener five-year-olds. It presents 52 key biblical truths that expand the children’s understanding of the same12 Big Questions and Answers used in Teach, Take and Tell. There are 3 weeks of curriculum for each of the 52 biblical truths. A Bible story, reflective of the truth is presented along with the concept each of three weeks. This allows the children to master the concept and the story. Actions rhymes, songs, games and crafts reinforce and add variety to this basic core lesson.

Regular Session Version

The regular session is for use in a single session, such as just Sunday School or the Church hour. The regular session makes use of Intake Activities, an Opening Circle, a Second Circle and a Closing Circle time, with play time scheduled in between the two circle times.

Intake Activities

Two different intake activities are suggested: the Mystery Concept Picture Coloring Sheet on Week 1; and then a Concept Review Game on Weeks 2 and 3.

Suggestions for these are included in the unit resources. Refer back to the Activities section to see samples of these.

Opening Circle Time

In Opening Circle Time, the children say the Class Rules Chant; the teacher prays the Opening Prayer; then introduces the Big Question, the Key Concept, the Key Concept Action Rhyme, the Concept Bible Verse, and the ACTS Prayer. The children finish up this teaching time with Music, Movement and Memory Activities.

Music, Movement and Memory Activities

The Music, Movement and Memory activities use simple homemade (or store bought) musical instruments or has the children do certain movements as they sing songs or way the Bible verse. In addition to the Big Question Song and the Concept Bible Song, a hymn, praise song and the Big Question UNIT Bible Verse (basic and deluxe version) are suggested for use. Play Time

During play time, the children play with a variety of just-for-fun activities. Appendix B in the Teacher's Binder includes some suggested activities.

First Circle Time

Classes using the regular session version will not use the curriculum listed for First Circle Time. This is solely for use in the Extended Version as a review for children who did not attend Sunday School, but have joined the class for the Church Hour.

Second Circle Time

Second Circle Time features a review of the Concept Bible Verse and the telling of the Bible story. Children are dismissed to the Go & Tell Craft Activity at the end of this Circle Time.

Refer back to the Activities section to see samples of each of these activities.

Go & Tell Craft Activity

The children do a different craft related to either the Bible story or the key concept they are learning. As the children work on their craft, teachers may choose to engage the children in discussion about what they've learned, using the Busy Hands Discussion Sheet.

Children are dismissed from their craft activity to play time before gathering in the last few minutes of class for Closing Circle Time.

Closing Circle Time

The children gather back together again in the last minutes of class for Closing Circle Time. During this brief time, the teacher and the children review the "big news they have to Go and Tell." They say the Big Question and Answer and key concept they have learned; and hold up the crafts they made to remind themselves of their meaning. The teacher closes with a brief Closing Prayer.
